Who is blaming who?
If all ‘whites’ in South Africa are (still) being held responsible for apartheid, irrespective of whether they supported apartheid, voted for the party that introduced it, or were even alive at the time of apartheid - now some 26 years ago, then conversely after all these years of ‘black’ majority rule under the ANC, which introduced the race based economic system of discrimination called affirmative action, and has resulted in huge losses to the country in terms of lost skills, lost opportunities, and lost government finance - Ramaphosa has estimated that state capture alone has cost the country over R500 billion – then should all ‘black’ folk now be equally required to repent and be held responsible for these gross injustices, just as many have demanded that all ‘whites’ repent and be held responsible for apartheid?
South Africans are now one of the highest income tax paying countries in the world, and with some of the worst government institutions, inclusive of our education system, with a rapidly deteriorating infrastructure due to lack of maintenance, insufficient capital expenditure, and plain corruption, and the country now has a national debt that has ballooned to R2.2 trillion, and has to pay R220 billion each year to service this debt, at an average rate of interest of 10% (according to STATS SA), a +-30% unemployment rate, and 30% of the population living below the poverty line. This is the legacy of 26 years of ANC rule.
Is it not time that our government stopped blaming every evil in the country on ‘the legacy of apartheid’ and ‘colonialism’ and started owing up to its dismal failures of state capture, and all the failed government run SOE institutions, such as ESKOM, SAA, Denel, SADF, PRASA etc.?
How about we all get over ourselves all our past failures and the colour of our skins, and stop the blame game and get on with building a new country, with a new leadership in government that is prepared to take us all there, without ANY race based discrimination or hatred?
