Good day, my name is Yandiswa i reside in orange farm Johannesburg. I am an intern in the department of Human Settlements. The department has employed us as interns in February 2017 where they initially signed us a 2 year contract as trainees in the construction project management field. While the 2 year contract was still running, we were transfered to project quality assurance unit to assist in conducting inspections, where we visit construction sites to inspect all work done and prepare inspection reports. We also have plenty of technical office work we have been engaged on.

When the 2 year contract ended, the unit requested the our contract should be extended and it was the extended by 2 more years, which will mean that we have 4 years serving in the department with no placement. We requested for employment but nothing happened up to this far. We were then informed that our contract will end January 2021 of which it was a surprise for us because the system indicated that our contract will end 2022, they then changed it manual to 2021.

In terms of Labour Relations Acts, a reasonable expectation has been created by the department that by extending our contract we would be absorbed into the system.

May i kindly request some intervention and help regarding this matter because we feel that the department has just been using us and when done kick us out. We seek for employment please help us!
