Dear DSD Minister, Deputy Minister and Director General,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to bring to your urgent attention the delay in processing my adoption court order and original birth certificate. These documents were received by the Department of Social Development (DSD) on 14 April 2024, and I was initially informed that the process would take three months. However, we are now heading into the fourth month, and I have yet to receive these critical documents.
When I initially inquired about the timeline, I communicated my need for an expedited process due to pre-booked international flights for myself, my husband, and my son. Despite this, I was assured that the process would take three months, which led to the unfortunate loss of our flights. Documentation of this communication and the lost flights can be found in attachments 1 and 2 respectively.
It has come to my attention that the DSD can no longer adhere to the three-month timeline due to the implementation of a new system. This unexpected delay is not only an inconvenience but also an infringement on my son's basic human rights. The timely processing of these documents is crucial for his well-being and our family's stability.
Furthermore, after receiving these documents, we still need to proceed with the noting of adoption and name change, which, as addressed in my open letter to the Home Affairs Minister, is expected to take an additional 12 months. The cumulative delays in this process are deeply concerning and place undue stress on our family.
While I appreciate the professionalism of the DSD staff I have communicated with during my follow-ups, I am now compelled to escalate this matter to your esteemed offices.
I kindly request your immediate intervention to expedite the processing of my son's court order and original birth certificate.
Your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated, as it directly affects the rights and well-being of my son.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
Kind Regards,
Tifny
