- Urgent Concern: False Stories About South Africa in the United States

Dear Members of the Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation,
I am deeply concerned about false stories circulating about South Africa, especially in the United States. I have met people there — and seen online discussions — who genuinely believe claims of “white genocide” or illegal land seizures based on race. These claims are completely false, yet they keep spreading and are repeated by public figures who do not understand our laws or reality.
These lies damage our reputation abroad, create unnecessary fear, and distract from the real issues we are addressing at home. Many South Africans are proud of our progress and constitutional principles, and it is frustrating to see that overshadowed by misinformation.
I urge the Committee to issue a clear public statement to set the record straight. Hearing the facts directly from Parliament will help counter these false stories and give people abroad an accurate understanding of our country.
Thank you for your attention.
Kind regards,
Patrick Wamuyu
