Dear Minister
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my deep disappointment upon receiving yet another rejection for sponsorship from the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture (DSAC) regarding my participation in the International Study Visit (ISV) in Greece from October 2025.
I am deeply discouraged that despite multiple applications and reassurances from the department to reapply in future cycles, I have once again been turned away due to budget constraints. While I understand the fiscal challenges facing government departments, I cannot help but feel that critical investments in South Africa’s creative future are being overlooked.
The rejection of my application not only affects my personal aspirations but also deprives the industry of an opportunity to benefit from global knowledge exchange. I strongly believe that strategic funding decisions should prioritise projects that have both individual and national impact, and I urge the department to reconsider my request under any partial available funding mechanisms.
This study visit presents a transformative opportunity not only for my personal and professional growth but also for the broader South African music and creative industries. As a musician, entrepreneur, and business professional, I have dedicated my career to bridging the gap between the creative sector and business strategy, contributing to both the economic and cultural development of South Africa.
This opportunity is not just about personal advancement—it directly aligns with DSAC’s mission to develop and empower South African artists and creative entrepreneurs. By participating in this program, I would:
1. Gain international insights into creative industry sustainability, which I can transfer to emerging artists and entrepreneurs through mentorship, workshops, and collaborations.
2. Strengthen South Africa’s global presence in music and creative business, fostering relationships that could lead to international collaborations and funding opportunities for our artists.
3. Serve as a living example of DSAC’s commitment to supporting industry transformation, reinforcing South Africa’s diverse and inclusive creative economy.
I would appreciate an opportunity to meet with you or a relevant department official to discuss alternative solutions. If direct funding is not possible, I would welcome assistance in soliciting any form of support, securing corporate sponsorships or facilitating discussions with potential private sector partners.
I remain committed to contributing to the advancement of South Africa’s music, arts, and cultural industries and sincerely hope that my request will be reconsidered with the urgency it deserves.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.
