Dear Constance Mkhonto,
I write to urgently address the ongoing struggle faced by my husband, Roebel Botha, and other injured police and ex-police officials. We are victims of prolonged delays and injustices in the processing of our compensation claims, primarily due to the Compensation Commissioner's failure to fulfill his statutory duties.
The Act [Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Amendment Act 61 of 1997] places a pivotal responsibility on the Commissioner to diligently process claims, facilitate prompt resolutions, and administer rightful compensation to injured employees. Regrettably, the Commissioner has neglected these duties, leading to unexplainable delays, prolonged waiting periods, and a lack of accountability. This has caused immense distress and denied us the closure and financial security we deserve.
The Commissioner's disregard for his responsibilities leaves us languishing in uncertainty and hardship, undermining the Act's aim to protect injured workers' rights. Countless individuals relying on fair compensation are affected by this systemic failure.
I implore you, as our elected representative, to prioritize this matter in Parliament. Hold the Compensation Commissioner accountable for failing to fulfill his obligations, which jeopardizes the welfare and rights of injured workers. I humbly request your support in championing our cause and ensuring the Commissioner is held responsible for the undue suffering we endure.
Additionally, please advocate for initiatives that promote efficiency, transparency, and fairness in the compensation process. Establish a robust framework to prevent recurring failures, safeguarding the rights and well-being of injured workers. The current state of affairs tarnishes the compensation system's reputation and perpetuates injustice and deprivation for those seeking recompense.
By addressing these issues promptly, you can restore our faith in the system and provide hope for a future where injured workers are treated with dignity, respect, and expediency. Rectifying this oversight will alleviate our suffering and reaffirm our commitment to justice and fairness.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. With your intervention, we can achieve the timely resolution and just compensation that has eluded us for too long.
Yours sincerely,
Charmaine Botha
