Bringing to light what is currently happening on the UKZN campuses.

On the 05th of February UKZN opened it's registrations portals online. Stating that not a single student will be allowed to get any assistance on campus. However need to request assistance online. Now here is where the problem starts. Ever since registration started it was one problem after the other. Firstly our modules are not reflecting as they should therefore we can't register them. They provided an option to request assistance yet up until today majority of us who have requested assistance have not been assisted as yet. They told us to contact ADO's for assistance and they are not attending to us. Or they tell us to contact the module administrator the module administrator tells us to contact our college, the college then tells us to contact the ITS team guess what they tell us to contact our college. As if that alone is not enough majority of our students are not financially cleared. It's almost as if the university is planning a mass financial exclusion of students. To make matters worse the University states that all first year students shall register online now the question is how does UKZN expect to successfully register first year Students if they can't even register the returning student. UKZN administration team is the pits right now. They are failing us dismally. To top that off they won't extend the registration period knowing full well that it is their incompetency that will lead to many students being unregistered by the end of the registration period. Secondly UKZN wants to explicitly exhort monies from students. The institution wants students to register for residents but they won't be occupying those spaces. UKZN is well aware that most students do not come from a conducive environment therefore will not be able to study from home . This is evident as many students failed last year and lost their Funding this year. Which means they are now both financially and academically excluded. UKZN is using this pandemic to frustrate the economically marginalised which unfortunately is almost 90% of its Student populace. So come the 05 of March many will be excluded because of UKZN administration incompetencies. Just yesterday we found out that one of students died because of the stress UKZN is causing for students. The stress this institution is causing will kill us more than this virus doing the rounds. How many more of us must die before UKZN sees the damage it's doing to its students. UKZN states that it is inspiring greatness I beg to differ it's inspiring depression. Lastly many of our institution students graduated however cannot access their degree complete letters or academic records and many of these students have missed bursary opportunities, internship opportunities, admission opportunities and overall job opportunities. Now does any of the things I mentioned above show an institution that is competent of utilising online platforms certainly not.

Yours Faithfully
Depressed UKZN student
