Dear Mam,

I am a care giver that is caring for a baby for the past 4 months. The baby suffered withdrawal symptoms as the mother was a drug user during pregnancy. I have successfully nursed the baby back to health and would like to be the foster parent of this child until the parents put their lives in order but I have been told that the childs relatives will be given first preference to him. The relatives knew when he was sick but did not want him.
I would like you to consider changing this law based on the amount of care that the children receive from care givers. I write this letter to you with much hope that you can elevate the rights of care givers in South Africa.
