Dear Sir / Madam

I came across in the media that there are proposals that the traffic authorities want to put forward to parliament and to the minister of transport for approval one of which I myself amongst many other South Africans will not agree on.

' Namely it involves one having to re do a driving test every five years ' when renewing a driving licence. This is not going to be achievable. It will not make a differance if one redid their driving test every five years.

-It would not change anything.
-There would still be accidents on our roads
-Many South Africans would not agree to this proposal of redoing a driving test every five years. The taxi drivers will go to war!

-Ultimately, the causes to accidents on our roads is because of ones negliagant attitude. It is not necessarily about not knowing the rules of the road but it is because some people do not care about others. Purely accident happen due to a lack of attitude towards others on the road.

Those who are not responsible to behave on our roads should have their licences revoked.

The idea of re doing their driving test every five years is not going to change anything. Those who do not behave on our roads must have their licences revoked. It is a behaviour issue. Those who have been driving for 20 yrs will not want to redo a test for a renewal of a driving licence.

I trust that the DA will do a petition to be againest this proposal before it is approved, however there are problems so it should be a failure.

Dear Robert,

Thank you for your email.

Please note that this was only a proposal which would have to undergo a lengthy process of public participation so that the public would be able to make the very points you make.

No such proposal has formally been tabled. Also due to the legislative programme, such a proposal would not be tabled until after the elections in the new parliament.

Kind regards/ Beste wense/ Ozithobileyo/ Melhores cumprimentos,
