The online distribution of hard-core pornography, called “X18” material in the Act, must not be legalised, especially not without a credible and official investigation into the impact of pornography on South African society. There exists well documented evidence of the extensive physical, psychological and social harms of pornography, which should first be given proper consideration, before a decision can be taken about wide-spread dissemination of hard-core pornography in South Africa through the internet.
