My name is Victor Kibet Rono, a young writer from Kenya. I am reaching out to share with you a poem I have written, titled 'The Home We Were Promised'.

The poem explores the distance between what people are promised and what they ultimately experience particularly questions of home, dignity, belonging, suffering and the hopes that people carry through difficult circumstances.

I have written it as a young African reflecting on the meaning of home and the responsibilities we have toward one another. It is not simply about a physical place, but about the idea of a home where people can live with dignity, safety and hope.
