Dear Honourable Mr. McKenzie,
I trust this message finds you well.
I am writing to you in your capacity as the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture to raise an urgent matter concerning Bodybuilding South Africa’s continued affiliation with SASCOC despite the non-compliance of its international federation, the IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness), with the World Anti-Doping Code.
On 17 October 2022, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) issued an all-stakeholder communication confirming that the IFBB had been officially declared non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code, with immediate effect. This ruling directly impacts the legitimacy of Bodybuilding South Africa's operations under WADA standards and renders them ineligible to officially award Protea Colours or represent South Africa in international competition under the Code.
Please reference confirmation of non-compliance below:

Please reference prescribed consequences below and also attached as Annexure A:

This situation undermines our national commitment to clean sport and athlete integrity. Allowing an organisation affiliated with a non-compliant international federation to continue operating under SASCOC’s recognition not only contradicts WADA directives but also places South Africa’s own sporting credibility at risk.
In light of this, I respectfully call for:
• The immediate suspension of Bodybuilding South Africa’s membership and recognition within SASCOC;
• The initiation of a formal review process to appoint a compliant national bodybuilding federation that
aligns fully with WADA standards and prioritises drug-tested sport;
• Consultation with the Department of Sport and SAIDS to ensure ongoing national alignment with
global anti-doping protocols in all sporting codes.
This is an opportunity to reinforce South Africa’s leadership in ethical sport and ensure that our athletes are represented on the global stage through credible, compliant structures.
Thank you for your consideration of this matter. I remain available to provide any further documentation or context should you require it.
Yours sincerely,
Future replies will be published here.
