I am a street vendor in Tshwane. I am operating my business from a mobile Kitchen. In 2017 I lost my job I have been looking for a job since 2017 till to date I haven’t found employment. In 2019 I decided to start a business selling food in the street. Before I started I was adviced to attend a workshop to get information on how I can get a license to sell food. A month after a workshop I applied for a license to trade in the street. My request was rejected reason being the address I wanted to trade in is in national road. I then got another address I was told the same. I applied more than 10 times with no success all the areas in Tshwane they say the streets in town they all in national road. Late 2019 I decided to stand up join other people in the street to sell food as I was tired of sitting at home and always asking for money and food.I am a single parent and also a bread winner.Since I started operating I have been harassed by the metro police ever since I started operating my business. Twice a month they come and take my trailer and give a fine ranging between R2000 and R2500. How on earth am I supposed to feed my family if they keep taking the source of income. I don’t want to depend on a grant from government. Our president is always encouraging people to start business. When we do we get harassed. Is he even aware of the abuse that street vendors go through to feed their families. Most of us growing up were fed by money that our parents made from selling in the street. People are loosing their jobs since last year march. More people are expected to loose their jobs. Government cannot hire all of us. I am one of the graduate who falls under unemployed people. Where do I find a job in this economy. I completed my degree in 2005 since then I haven’t got even a single interview for a job. I only worked in retail. Where are we headed as a country. Where is the spirit of Ubuntu? When are the laws going to be amended to suit the poor? We sleep hungry and our political parties seems to turn a blind eye since they are not the ones who are been affected by the laws. Please help us we need you😰
