Dear Sihle Lonzi
As you are aware, there are a number of single-sex schools in the country. I'd like to raise this as a concern, as single-sex education perpetuates misogyny and is an unsafe place for LGBTQ+ students. I was a transgender (MTF) at an all boys' school, and the harassment and hair policy deteriorated my mental health to the point I was in a psychological institution. I've also observed that hair policies discriminate against Black people, and that racism, sexism, and homophobia are much more prevalent in single-sex schools compared to co-ed. This is considered a non-sense matter by many, the educational years are fundamental to personal and social development, and its crucial that we have a safe-learning environment that fosters social progress.
