I keep reading articles on potential fraud issues with old green id book. I came to SA in 1967 and was naturalised in approx 1980. Due to being a naturalised citizen I was compelled by law to do two years national service. I have worked my whole life in SA and paid taxes. I have now retired I have a SA passport but I am not allowed to apply for a smart card. Please can you advise when I will able to apply and lessen my chance of becoming a victim of fraud.
