Minister George,

I take the liberty to approach you for your assistance.

Below is a trial of self-explanatory mails to SANPARKS which until date have not yet been rewarded with a final reply .

My appeal is in essence based on the fact that the Storms River disabled accommodation is not included in the concessions allowed for disabled visitors and pensioners. In order to qualify a disabled must therefore book the normal accommodation. In our case the family. Same may apply in other SANPARK camps.

As you will note I have from the outset copied senior officials at SANPARKS!

I also copy the Minister of Woman Youth and persons with Disabilities.

Kindly acknowledge receipt of this mail and advise if you will be able to assist in this matter?

Sanpark Customer Service and Management,

We are parents with a quadriplegic son and ourselves pensioners.

I made the attached booking today and was advised that the pensioners discount don’t apply to the disabled units. In order to qualify for the discount which in understand is some instances also extended to disabled clients we must book units that are not disabled friendly.

As our history will show, over the years we have become seasoned visitors of various SANPARK accommodation and appreciate the efforts made to provide disabled facilities!

We however on occasion had to accept other less suitable accommodation only to note that the disabled units were occupied by a family without special needs. . (Our experience at Agulhas a few years ago when we were in a unit with a stairs at the entrance.)

We also had an experience at Karoo where someone was occupying the disabled unit we had had booked and on arrival initially refused to vacate the unit. The occupants at the time became rude and hostile with us. The initial placing of the other party in the unit was attributed to loadshedding at the time!

I realise that I never vented past problems in the past but nevertheless believe it is necessary to place on record.

Further the disabled units are not available to book online and thereby qualify for the discount since the units are blocked and only available by calling reservations.

The discount approach does not make sense and require serious review of the SANPARKS policies.

Your response as to what can be done to assist us as well as review of your policies to assist clients in the same position going forward.
