Dear honorable Minister.
I take this opportunity to greet you, and to salute you on the positive work done so far to turnaround our ailing parastatals.
With that said, I want to turn your eyes for a minute, to a grave injustice that is experienced in Transnet, TFR in particular, as the Operational Division that is a responsible for almost half of the success of Transnet in relation to the revenue stream in the past fiscal quarter and fiscal year. It is clear that TFR is the nerve of Transnet.
With many challenges that we have faced as an Operational Division, State Capture being the Beast of these challenges among others. We appreciate the work that you are doing and also the revelations that are still being heard through the Zondo Commission.
But we have another internal problem in TFR, that needs urgent attention and urgent redress, This problem could potentially be experienced all across Transnet. We still have numerous pay scale inequality among White employees and Black employees who are doing the same work and with the same qualifications that are required. In some instances, Black employees have more academic qualifications than their White colleagues.
A typical example is the Train Assistant Position within TFR, Whites are earning far more than Blacks.. it’s a fact, all you have to do is get into the system of Payroll and confirm this. It’s but just one example, Across Transnet as a whole, Different Divisions compensate differently for the same pay level. It’s totally absurd.
Labor has done nothing much to improve the situation, unfortunately this letter will never serve as a platform with intricate details, it needs intervention and investigation.
Our democracy puts Equality at the center of Constitutionalism.
There are too many things that are making a Mockery of our Constitution in TFR, especially at the expense of the Black worker.
I, We plea with the Government of the day, to take this matter with due consideration,as it is an Administrative Issue.
The Department Of Public Enterprises owes it to itself to at least investigate all Pay Grades within Transnet, especially TFR.
Equal Pay For Equal Work.
Thank You.
