Dear Mr Mthethwa,

I have read recently that you disagreed with the athlete selection for the RSA Olympic Team sent to Tokyo. Please do not take my inquiry as some sort of surreptitious criticism but will this put the team selectors, in the future in a quandary ? .

For instance a selector, in order to comply with representation of demographics might have to exclude a really talented athlete and replace him with an athlete who does not have such prowess. If applied to the team as a whole this could lead to low medal count.

I know are obliged to support the ANC transformation target, however I am curious about your thinking processes when coming to your conclusions. Surely Selection by merit should be the main criterion, especially for an entity such as our National Olympic Team.

To sum it up what comes first allegiance to your country or allegiance to your party, please be honest about your motives.
