Dear Ms Motshekga and DBE

It is now the DBE who is compromising the standard of the 2020 Matric Certificate, not the leaked papers!!! Please cancel the rewrites!

The simple reasons are:

- the Matrics are being punished for the DBE's own failings!

- in a year that has put these Matrics through incredible stress already this is just beyond comprehension, and shows an intense lack of empathy, understanding and support for these kids;

- the DBE's reasoning that it is necessary otherwise the 2020 Matric Certificate standard would be compromised is deeply flawed:
Firstly - the 2020 Matric is ALREADY compromised due to the pandemic.
Secondly - making ALL these exhausted Matrics rewrite will certainly see the majority doing worse than in their first paper as they are completely drained from this unimaginably exhausting year.
Thirdly - the likelihood is that the leaked papers will have a tiny influence on the standard of the 2020 Matric certificate, whereas the rewrite will have a major influence across the whole Matric Class.

Therefore - it is now the DBE who is compromising the standard of the 2020 Matric Certificate, not the leaked papers!!!

It is incredible that the DBE made this decision. I was happy with what they did through the year handling this pandemic, but this decision has made me doubt them totally.

A final note - my son is bright, able to control his stress levels, is at a good school and has a caring, good home - he will be ok. But the vast majority out there are not so lucky - THAT is who you are compromising with this, simply put, stupid decision.
