Dear Minister Leon Schreiber
I hope you are doing well today.
I am Martine Nzeba Mpoyi, living in Johannesburg, writing to you regarding the extension of my family's refugee status. Since August 2nd, our documents have expired. We applied online 2 weeks before this date, and we got the automatic response as usual to report to the office in Pretoria. We went to Pretoria every week until the end of August. Every time they give us a new appointment, when you come for that appointment, you get another one. Sometimes they take all your documents until 4 PM no one is coming back to you to bring back your documents. You need to get other documents to present when you come another day. All this happened when the system was working until the second week of October, when the system went down.
Now, the last two weeks of November 2025. We went to the office in Pretoria, they just collected our documents, and we waited until 4 pm. We went back home without our documents. They are saying we will send you the appointment, and we will wait until we don't get the appointment. There is no sign to show the police, if asked for the permits, to show that we are in the process of renewing the permits. My family are in trouble, the school of the children, and the bank is waiting for the renewed permits. I have one boy who is a student at the University of Johannesburg, another at Rosebank College; these boys have missed classes because every week, we travel to Pretoria for the extension. Now we don't even know what to do. Transport to go to Pretoria every week is not a simple matter. May you please assist us in this situation? We live a stressful life and ask for help in this situation. My boy is engaged in helping the community by doing volunteer work at UJ. Your assistance will be highly appreciated for us to get assistance for the extension of our permits.
Kind regards
