Honourable Minister ,two day ago I was severely knocked by a police van on my way to Frere Hospital to get Post Mortem Laboratory results,I'm not going to go into details because the matter is under investigation and I'm happy with the way it is conducted even though it looks obvious as to what happened exactly. As a law abiding citizen of this country who deal with medico-legal deaths in government mortuary conducting autopsies for the state ,I find it difficult to stomach what happened there, the police are law enforcement agencies who are expected to lead by example in the society, considering the problem of high mortality rate due to reckless or negligent driving but what happened to me is clear evidence that we are in a banana republic where the police behave like ill educated fools who do not value human life,my Mercedes Benz E250 CDI was left badly damaged causing a lot of inconvenience, psychological trauma and clearly showed that our law enforcement agencies think they are above the Law of the Republic, how do we fight reckless driving when your own law enforcement agencies behave in that manner?I don't have a car to do my duties, take my kid to school, depressed simply because people just don't care.I was nearly killed by the very police who are supposed to protect us,I find myself depressed and having difficulty in dealing with my daily which is conducting post mortem examination for the state, without a car to do what I normally do,take my kid to school,go to work, visiting friends etc.I'm totally disgusted and very angry ,I urge the police to be professional, protect citizens and stop behaving like rascals,Thank You..From Dr SS Zondi,East London Forensic Pathology Services, Westbank
