Dear Honorable Minister,

I trust the you are well.

I would like to voice my opinions so that can get assistance. I might be writing to the wrong person but believe you can assist me. I am Hloni, a single mother who is 39 years old originally from a disadvantaged background. I have been working for an International Property Company and one of the directors of this company happens to be in a very senior position infect employed as CEO in one of Governments agencies. I started not feeling well 3 weeks ago and I was diagnosed with depression and the employer was given the doctors note even though it was never explained what was wrong with me which I believe to be confidential. To my surprise irrespective of them getting these documents, they had a hearing on the 24th May, where they dismissed me and I got the notification on a Sunday the 27th May. I never had a contract since I started working for this company since 1 November 2018. I have been short paid for the month of May and this has caused me to be more sick as I have responsibilities.

The reason why I am reporting this matter to you is that our government is trying to make sure that unemployment rate goes down and that the person involved to be in such a position and not respect the law is such a shame. When I started asking for my contract that's when they started treating me anyhow. They fired me on the spot whilst I was sick and I am really hurt with what they did as I am a South African graduate and because my voice cannot be heard I should accept being thrown away like a nobody. My future and my credit record is now ruined as I cannot pay my debts. There were no internal processes that were conducted and no warnings were given. I got fired because I did not agree with the way his wife was treating staff members who ended up resigning.

I am bringing this to your attention as I have written to you department and nothing was done about this. After watching on news today the story of an old man I felt the pain as I am also a victim of working without a contract since I started working and Instead of me being given a contract and after speaking to one of the labour inspectors I was dismissed. Infect the inspector refused to assist me. I have proof of everything that I am talking about. We cannot only rely on CCMA, the department should assist us.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Kind Regards,
Hloni
