Dear Honourable James
I write to you as a concerned citizen in regard to the R600 Million that is said to have been spent on policing the nation-wide protests that took place on 30 June 2026. We as South Africans deserve to know exactly how that money was spent, and I therefore petition you and your fellow portfolio committee members to call the Minister of Police into Parliament to give a detailed and transparent account to the public in that regard - answering, amongst others, the following questions:
- How exactly were the funds distributed?
- Which companies benefitted and how much were they each paid?
- How were these contracts procured, and over what period of time?
- What were the overtime wages paid to police members?
- What was the cost of vehicles, petrol and any other equipment used?
- How much money - if any - was left over, and what was done with it?
I am certain that you, Honourable James, will have more questions of your own, and will do everything in your power to hold officials in the Department of Police to account, as we have witnessed you do so admirably in the past.
Kind Regards,
Lungiswa Matshaba - Concerned Citizen & Patriot.
