Dear Minister of Education
I trust you are well.
Mam' Angie South Africa is facing a difficult time with the Covid 19 pandemic, we as South Africans we need to find a way forward. As a parent i am concerned about the safely of my children and at the same time concerned about their education. To get to the point, I release that South Africa is too occupied with trying to get things back to the way they were and I am not saying that is a bad thing however we should rather focus on finding other alternatives. I think perhaps the Department of Basic Education should consider rescheduling the school calendar altogether, have the school year start in July and end in June the following year. Major exams can be written in December and the final examination in June. Matriculants can start their final year exam mid-May so that they can enroll for higher learning in July when the 2nd semester starts in Higher Learning Institutions. I believe that the rescheduling of the school calendar will be beneficial, the learners will not have the pressure of catching up. Matriculants can still enroll in varsity next year. This might even reduce the alcoholism and road carnage in December because learners will be writing exams during that time.
I trust my suggestions will be taken into consideration.
