Dear Minister,

The issues with the home affairs you've taken over are plenty. I believe that one of the plenty that should take priority is the establishment of a clear immigration policy. Your predecessor hates immigrants (legal or not). This is evident in his allowance for the entire immigration system to collapse, forcing people who did what was needed to comply with the laws into illegal status. Illegal immigrants continue to roam South Africa's streets freely. My spouse had been in SA legally since 2013 until an incompetent official decided to reject an extention application on invalid grounds and the appeals lodged have been awaiting a decision since 2022. When he is stopped by traffic officers, he is treated poorly and intimidated because officers see an expired permit and believe they've scored a pay day. Unfortunately for them, he is not that way inclined. His bank accounts are constantly on the verge of being closed due to FICA. Worst of all, he is held hostage in SA and we thank the Lord that nothing urgent has come up requiring him to travel and risk being denied re-entry.

Please Minister, do something about appeals. This is a low hanging fruit to sift out the good from the bad.
