Good day , Minister i am very concerned about the recent over crowding in our jails, . Minister kindly consider the following, the heavy sentences being given to offenders who have robbed but not killed and get about 8 -10 years sentences, whilst killers, rapists and kidnappers getting lesser sentences.
Why do not we in SA have a law , that stipulates offenders especially those who are on waiting trial for donkey years should, they be found guilty the years spent in jail whilst, on waiting trial be subtracted from their sentence?
Why do they wait so many years being on trial , only to be sentened later on , not adding the years spent on trial.?
Some have rehabilitated, do a follow up report and seek an early release. This will definitely reduce what i term as "WASTE OF GOVERNMENT RESOURCES" where the money could have been invested somewhere else.
The ones who are found guilty such as, killers and rapists have to receive a hefty sentence without any doubt.
Take a look at abusers they too are likely to receive a hefty sentence as it sometimes lead to death or permanent disability due to the beatings.
Thanking you in advance and hoping for a positive response from your office.
Yours Faithfully
Miss Vuyokazi Magobiyane.
