To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing to lodge a formal complaint about the service I received from the Fraud Department at Sophiatown Police station (Johannesburg West) is the last 2 weeks.

My family and I were recent victims of a non violent scam crime, all our savings (5 years worth) was scammed from us through a fake car dealership / auctioneer. The day we realized we have been scammed 23-May-2020 , I immediately attempted to open a case as an attempt to catch these guys seeing that they are still operating. To this day , I only obtained a CASE NUMBER - 482/5/2020 . No investigation has started, I personally contacted the bank to advise that he account I payed funds into is a fraud account , the bank confirmed that this account has since been handed over to the SAPS for investigation. It has been 2 weeks and I have since heard nothing from my SAPS. I called and also went down to the station all week and the Detective assigned to my case advised that she is going on study leave and will only tend to my case upon her return. There is no-one else that can take this case and I have confirmation that this syndicate is still operating and scamming people on a daily.

As a young tax payer , this lack of government service really shocks me . We South African Citizents count in the SAPS to inforce the law and provide safety and security but unfortunately it seems like the criminals are aware of this lack of effort hense the high number of organized crime.

I just want the SAPS to try and catch these guys , as I believe stopping crimes as such will make this country a better place. My family is forced to seek assistance from a Private Investigator but these services are costly and can only provide information, and not law enforcement.

With the information that I have on this syndicate - I believe that any competent Investigating Officer would be able to track then down and bring about justice. Like I said; I am not the last person who will suffer by their hands and I just want them to be caught. I can disclose all required information and also intel on this syndicate.

Police officers pledge to "act in a manner that is impartial, courteous, honest, respect, transparent and accountable" and act with "integrity in rendering an effective service of a high standard which is accessible to everybody". The service I received fell significantly short of this duty. The police service should be held accountable for the delivery of bad service and I hope that you will take this matter seriously.
