Dear Commander-in-Chief Malema,

My name is Chuma Honono, a young South African and a descendant of liberation leaders who gave their lives to the pursuit of dignity and freedom for all. I write to you as the great-great-grandchild of Nathaniel Impey Honono, a name carried in the early struggles against colonialism, and the great-grandchild of Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, whose courage shaped generations.

I carry this heritage not as a claim to status, but as a daily reminder that justice must always come first that leadership must always serve the people.

Like many, I have followed your political journey with admiration for your courage to speak truth to power, your unwavering stand on land, economic transformation, and the dignity of Black lives. You have given voice to the frustrations of millions of South Africans who feel forgotten and betrayed by systems that were meant to liberate them.

But I also write with the burden of concern because the hope that many place in the EFF must never be taken for granted.

The people are watching. The youth are listening. And our elders are waiting for the freedom they were promised. We need more than powerful speeches we need powerful discipline, powerful accountability, and leadership that embodies the values we fight for. Land without corruption. Power without arrogance. Freedom without the price of forgetting the poor.

This is not a call-out it is a call in. To remind ourselves that our revolution cannot be selective. That the character of our movement must reflect the soul of the people. That those who claim to be for the people must be above reproach in how they govern, how they speak, and how they live.

I write to you because I still believe in the potential of the EFF not just as a political force, but as a moral one. That belief must be earned every day, not just in Parliament or at rallies, but in our actions when no one is looking.

Let the EFF be known not just for shaking the system, but for shaping a future we can all stand behind with pride.

Thank you for the space to speak as one of many young South Africans who carry the memory of struggle and the hope of a better tomorrow.

In strength and truth,
Chuma Honono
