Dear Dr Motsoaledi. I am a South African citizen since the year 2000 & I have lived, worked, paid tax & cheered for freedom & democracy in our beautiful country since I permanently became a resident in 1991. I always believed that as a citizen of South Africa I had the same rights, but this is not so. I cannot use the online Home Affairs facility to apply for a new ID card & renew my passport because I was not born in SA. During covid I was too afraid for my husband health - who is in his seventies- to go to my local home affairs to renew my passport & now the queues are overwhelmingly long and I simply dread to go to the home affairs to renew my passport. As a citizen of SA I ask myself why am I & others who were born in another country are discriminated against? Aren’t we as deserving citizens of SA then those who were born in this country? If all citizens of SA could apply online that would at least take some pressure off the already overflowing crowds & staff at all Home Affairs offices. Can you kindly reconsider application on line for citizens that were born in a foreign country & take this matter to parliament? I thank you kindly for serving our nation & the public. Yours truly Mrs Susie Hurwitz, resident of Cape Town
