i'm a first year students at the University of the free state. Sir the former president Mr Zuma introduced the fee-free higher education, and we as the students asked on how this free education will be implemented. we were told that NSFAS will be 100% a Grant not a loan anymore. Yes we registered and went on with our studies, then another question arise, will we study homeless, we were told to find accommodation for ourselves in the meantime we wait for NSFAS to cover all the cost if one did not apply nor qualify for res. we found the students accoms, we waited for NSFAS to implement nor cover all the cost. Sir right now we as students are facing crisis, I have been squatting at a friend for nearlt two months because my parents can't afford to pay the 2000 rent for me as they both are not working and i already supplied NSFAS with four affidavits which states that.
How does the state claim to be giving free education whilst we are still homeless, have no shelter to study under. Even now we haven't received our Private Accommodation fees, and when we inquire, it seems as if we are after money and we are eager to learn hence we want the shelter to study. We were told to wait for the LAFs they have arrived but still the process is still slow, students are been kicked out of communes and flats due to failure of paying rent. My LAF hasn't arrived yet sir and when I call NSFAS to inquire they tell me that they don't deal with Extended or late applications as I applied this year January, i have to go and inquire at the institution and when I arrive there they tell me that they are not the funders NSFAS is the one funding.
Sir please with appreciation help us and deal with these conspiracy theories because we might be "20% of the population but we are 100% the future of this country."
