Good evening.
I am one of the first year student from the University Of South Africa (UNISA). I am hereby to complain about the annual allowance from nsfas which is R5200. I dearly know and understand that UNISA is an ODL institution, and was designed for working people who wish to continue studying while working. It should be taken into consideration that it now has students who are not working and some are directly from high school. We did not wish to study in an ODL institution but because of we were rejected in full-time institutions we had no option.
What I'm trying to explain here is that we too deserve a fair allowance from nsfas. I think we too deserve at least transport allowance, as some of us come from rural areas and to reach our campus we use buses and spend R100 p.d only on transport. Some of us wish to recieve accommodation allowance so that we can hire a room even if we share so that we can be near campuses because we depend on group discussions that takes place at the campus around 17:00 until 20:00 to pass modules. We really appreciate the little we've got but at least we deserve maybe R500 p.m for accommodation. That will do a trick. It's hard for us first years because we really need to be present at campuses to get all the help we can receive from seniors.
Some of don't have laptops and smartphones to communicate with others. This is really hard for us.
I hope this does not fall on deaf ears.
