Dear Minister Nxesi
At the end of August 2021 my wife was forced to close her business due to COVID-19 and her deteriorating health. On 1 September 2021, EXACTLY ONE YEAR AGO, she as well as her former employee submitted all documentation to claim UIF after contributing for more than 9 years. Despite various follow-ups neither have received any UIF benefit. I have been struggling with UIF and the Dept of Employment and Labour since 12 August 2022 to resolve the issue, BUT WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS. Neither the DG nor the Commissioner seems to have the appetite to assist and resolve the issue and officials don't seem to care. We have had to submit UI 19's and salary schedules 5 times to 5 different officials and still there is NO progress. UIF is also NOT complying with its own legislation and I think is is despicable and deplorable the way in which UIF deals with unemployed and desperate members of the public.
I saw today in government news that Government:
".. are working to ensure an efficient and effective public service, and also ensure
integrated and aligned service delivery efforts across government.
The Public Service is committed to the economic and effective use of resources, and to
provide services in an impartial, fair and equitable way.
We remain committed to ensuring that public servants serve citizens promptly and
courteously, while assisting them to make informed choices when accessing services"
This is definitely NOT true in Department of Employment and Labour and specifically NOT IN UIF.
UIF is a disgrace to deserving and legitimate South African!
Just how long are claimants supposed to wait for UIF to pay them the benefits that they deserve and for which they have contributed for more than 9 years? THIS IS NOR FAIR AND TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
