Hi Angie,

Could you please explain the reasoning behind the "no spectators" rule currently in the rules and regulations of Covid at school level?

If Political gatherings are allowed, funerals are allowed and all outdoor gatherings of 250 people or more are allowed, then how can I as a parent not be allowed to watch my child play cricket or any other sport within the 250 people outdoor gathering rule?

It just does not make any sense!!
If social distancing is adhered to, temperatures are measured and masks are worn then surely a maximum of 250 people can be allowed to attend a game of cricket, that normally has no more than 50-60 spectators in any case.

As parents we would like to support and see our children grow up, operate at their best and worse during a sporting event and be there to offer what only a parent can offer when a child is successful or when he/she fails. Now they are left to manage their happiness when achieving and also their sadness when failing all on their own without any parental support. As parents we also miss out on the joy of watching our children at play, all because of a rule that makes no sense in the context of allowed gatherings outdoors.

Please can we get to a point where we have some constants in our rules for the country. If you allow one thing such as political gatherings with 250 people outdoors, then you should and have to allow a maximum number of spectators at school sporting events in the light of fairness and an even playing ground for all people and all events in South Africa.

I hope you can and will make the changes that fall under simple logic, that we as South African citizens expect and request of you with urgency. The longer it takes the more we loose opportunities to be there for our children at all times. And we can never get that back!
