I am writing this email because you have always represented and shown a big interest in the Education sector especially when it comes to adult education. I have time and again read Ms Suckers bringing both Umalusi and the Department of Education to account on numerous occasion about when they will be bringing NASCA but time and again Umalusi seems to turn this a blind eye and shifts the blame to the Department of Higher Education.
Since the phasing out of Technical Matric in 2020 which was the only hope for adults to get their matric certificate, a new curriculum called NASCA was promised to be implemented in 2021 and this did not happen. Now we are in 2022 and there has only been promises but these have since died down again and it will be two years.
We cannot over empasise the important of the matric certificate in such a high unemployment economy and failure to implement a certificate that was proposed since 2014 is indeed not acceptable.
The certificate must be implemented this June and rolled out to ensure that the exams will occur in 2023. However this has been not the case and we need solid answers from the DHET and Umalusi.
What must adults do, must they put their life also on hold until whoever is responsible launches the begin date at their own time. What about the lives and time being wasted. It is sad that they were quick to end Technical Matric and if they saw a delay in NASCA implementation then they must have at least allowed Technical Matric to continue.
The current matric-Amended Senior Certificate given to adults who are working, some having families to take care of, always pressed by time. This group of people struggles a lot with Amended Matric and it is evidence by more than 90% of failure rate. Hence the NASCA or Technical Matric N3.
Can we please have answers on when they will be launching NASCA

Dear Zinkwa
You are indeed correct that the organisation of education in South
Africa sometimes have unintended consequences. The NASCA is indeed
intended to make it easier for adults to attain a senior certificate and
also to make the educational process more relevant to them. It was also
conceptualised due to the problems experienced with previous ways to
enhance one's qualifications.
However, cancelling one qualification before its substitute is entirely
ready, is never a good idea. We will definitely ask full information
from the department, as I am currently not in posession of everything
which may be relevant.
Yours sincerely
Wynand Boshoff
