Dear Kenneth,
please see my below message in response to a message on a WhatsApp group I belong to.
The ACDP and VF certainly lead by way of green ticks, they certainly meet my personal value list, but politics is not so much about religious compatibility as it is about getting a job done - that is to say, to lead a country.
In our situation that means taking a country that has been trashed and that's in the hands of corrupt, incompetent people, and leading the people into a safe and prosperous future - a future that they deserve.
Kenneth Meshoe founded the ACDP in 1993 and has been the leader since. What has he done in the last 31 years in the political landscape? The only time I ever hear from him or about him is the three months in the lead up to the elections and that's just a quick 10 minutes here and there as part of his campaign trail.
Can anyone here mention the names of anyone else in a leadership role in the ACDP? Do you know who your ACDP ward councillor is? I unfortunately don't. I do know the names of the current ward counsellors in my area, and only because they get featured in a local newspaper and attend the Fish Hoek Valley Ratepayers Association; but do not know the names of any opposing counsellors in my area.
How do you vote for someone to be in a leadership role at national level when they're missing even at local level? They have no track record of governing anywhere. And I'm not just speaking about the ACDP here, this includes leaders of the ANC, EFF, VF, Cape Exit or COPE.
I would love to vote for the ACDP, and it's not to say that I won't or that I will, but it would be very helpful and would make my choice so much easier if I actually saw Kenneth and his band of merry men doing something in the three years and nine months between elections.
Future replies will be published here.
