There are traffic wardens at the Department of Community Safety who were recruited last year August 2018,we were taken to rooivaal which is a lodge where we were trained n skilled with knowledge of a traffic officer, and our main training programme was focused on escorting abnormal loads trucks, we worked a year as our contract was for twelve months, when it ended this year July 31st we were fired without any reason whilst our colleague's contracts were being renewed, we told the department does not havebuse of us anymore, we then took the matter upon ourselves to fight n ask for a meeting with the MEC of community safety, Faith mazibuko, however she said shes saving our lives by putting us on a patroller forum, previously we were offered contracts of employment and she claims it was a learnership,now the Department is offering us a post of being safety ambassadors to perform almost similar duties with saps and we are not trained an equipped for that, abnormals are still on the south African roads daily, however officers are being used and specialized units are being used to pursue people's greed, they even changed the units name from abnormal load unit to S. P. U which is a specialized unit in dealing with serious crimes, the former Mecs vision was to permanent wardens to relief officers from doing other duties like point duty, funeral escorts, adhoc, assisting in accident scenes securing the evidence, helping provincial funerals, so that officers do what they can which is ensuring road safety as we are not allowed to issue tickets nor stop vehicles, but we are authorized as peace officers, our management is extorting these companies that offer logistics by demanding daily fees for escorts with state vehicles n the unit itself is poor due to lack of consultation, we used to travel in threes inside Np200 bakkies, I had have colleagues that used to travel from Devon to Johannesburg with the bakkie being 4 inside, our government is exploiting the youth, people are employed on a fixed contract basis dating from 10 years back, we also worked on a contract for 12 months, we are trying to also pursue a case against them to reinstate us, our departmental administration is making the Department disfuctional, all the wardens that were recruited are now fully fledged officers, but us being the 3rd group we are being chucked out with a reason that the Department has no use for us anymore, but all other employees contractsare renewed.. we are suffering 29 gauteng youths have contributed to the 29%UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASE, and it is apparent that our chief director does not like nor want us hence the contracts were not renewed. Please assist as I have seen how briiliant the show is.
