I am a Jewish South African/American living now in the US. Since Oct 7, I have felt constantly distraught about the situation in Israel and Gaza, and its on-going tragedies for Israelis and Palestinians. As time goes by, I feel increasingly less safe and more isolated from my fellow Americans and betrayed and hated by South Africa. Your visit to Israel and subsequent announcement confirming your support for Israel and your condemnation of South Africa's case to the International Court of Justice, is a much appreciated balm to me. You speak about South Africa having a fractured past, and this well describes the lives of Jews world over. My soul is alone and indeed fractured and I cannot tell you how deeply you have touched me. My hope is that your palpable love will spread through your community and we will eventually reach a time of peace, safety and tolerance for all people.
