FURTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING PHASE
GENERAL RECOMMENDATION
In the light, of the suggestion that Grade 9 have an exit certificate in other words an NQF1 certificate I would want to see the following be investigated:
a. That the GET phase be combined into a single institution catering for Grades 7 through to 9. This will enable the institution to prepare learners with a view to qualify them for an NQF1 exit certificate. In other words, removing all Grade 7 learners who are currently at Primary Schools to join their peers at General education and Training-GET institutions. This will enable the Primary schools to have a real exit at Grade 6 and not at Grade 7.
b. Then the GET institutions will be able to offer a three-year curriculum, catering for middle age learners who are at the point of launching their careers at the FET phase.
c. This will then allow the FET institutions to become very Senior with a very senior age group.
2nd RECOMMENDATION
FET Curriculum
Life Orientation Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy
Recommendations would like the department of basic education to consider the following suggestions:
1. That the Life Orientation subject is revised and externally examined. The Revision to include communication and the use of technological software and some of the most and much needed popular Computer skills.
2. Secondly, The Mathematical literacy subject is made a compulsory subject for all FET learners. Obviously, the curriculum may have to be revised as well.
3. Learners who are Taking pure Mathematics being able to be able to take Maths Literacy as well as it will be a compulsory subject.
4. This will enable learners to present 8 subjects for the final Matric as is common with learners who sit for more than 7 subjects.
Future replies will be published here.
