Good day Honourable Smith. Ever since I took a keen interest in Parliament in 2008, once I started my politics studies at UCT, you have stood out for me as an exemplary Member of Parliament. You have shown great leadership, character and legislative astuteness both as a Chairperson and Member of various Committees. Parliament greatly benefits from the institutional memory you bring. The legacy you have left in fearlessly leading the SABC Inquiry, and essentially setting the path for other Committees, holding government accountable in SCOPA and drafting historical legislation on regulating political party funding, shines bright. I continue to look forward to your legislative work this year.

I am humbled by your kind words. I certainly did not anticipate this and
my own view is that there should be no expectation to receive words of
praise as I am simply doing what you, the public, expect of me to do.
Notwithstanding this however, let me thank you for the sentiments
