Dear Minister

I wish to express my concern for the well-being of activist Thapelo Mohapi.

As general secretary of the grassroots organisation Abahlali baseMjondolo (AbM), he has campaigned to make the lives of his community in eKhenna better.

However, he has been living in hiding since 2021 as a result of death threats. Three AbM members were murdered in eKhenna in 2022.

I urge the South African authorities to:

[1] complete a comprehensive, effective, impartial, independent and open investigation into the harassment and killings of AbM members;

[2] bring suspected perpetrators to justice in fair trials;

[3] end attacks against AbM members, including Thapelo Mohapi, and their families.
