Dear Advocate Breytenbach
I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding your recent comments on how General Mkhwanazi addressed corruption within the South African Police Service (SAPS).
General Mkhwanazi first raised these serious allegations in Parliament on 5 March 2025, in the presence of the Minister. However, no visible action was taken for three months. It was only on 6 July 2025, after he repeated the same concerns during a public press briefing, that politicians including yourself chose to respond.
It is troubling that Parliament only begins to act when matters are aired in the media rather than when they are formally presented within its own chambers. As a citizen, I find this delay in response unacceptable, especially when the integrity of our law enforcement institutions is at stake.
I trust that you, as a public representative, will reflect on this and begin to act decisively and timeously on issues of national importance, not only when they make headlines.
Future replies will be published here.
