Dear Ian Cameron

My son’s Ford Escort was impounded 6 months ago. He exports cars to the UK as we all lived there during his school years and he developed a passion for old cars. Consequently his mother tongue is English.
The reason for the impounding was that the VIN number on the engine wasn’t clear due to a repair that had been carried out on the car before purchase.
He informed them on WhatsApp where they could find a 2nd VIN number, quite clearly stating it was under the passenger seat. They sent him photos of the DRIVERS seat after removing it and said that there was no number. He reiterated that he clearly told them passenger seat and could they please check it. They replied in a voice message in Afrikaans, which we had to interpret, that it could take 1 week or 2 weeks or months before they might get around to it.
So far, they have had the car for 6 months.
He offered to come remove the seat himself which they declined.
All this seems like delaying tactics to me. For what reason?
One can only surmise, but we would appreciate it if you could intervene and sort this problem out. He has started this business that is doing well, but can’t afford to have over two hundred thousand tied up waiting for results from a department that is delaying sorting out a simple solution, for months. When he went to the pound the guys at the gate said it would probably be crushed.
Other staff members made comments about how much he sells them for. Either way it’s none of anybody’s business there to discuss the vehicle and this seems like scare tactics to me.
Your intervention in this matter would be appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.
