I have come by this email to share with you the frustrations we are currently experiencing as foreigners in the city of Johannesburg.
But first, allow me to congratulate you, sir, on your appointment as Minister of the home affairs. And we believe that your appointment will bring solutions to immigration issues in the country.
Personally, I am of Congolese origin, and I have lived in this country since 2007, I am the father of 4 children all born in this country and who find themselves undocumented.
I myself held 2 worker visas for 10 years only to be refused a PR for reasons that I do not understand since 2020.
The children grow up in this country and one of them will have to write matric exams next Year, but we do not know where to get help since all doors because all the doors have been closed to us.
I don't dare tell you how frustrating it is with the harassment of the police and immigration agents who are engaged in a business where they absolutely must arrest all black foreigners with or without papers to extract money from them each time.
The police raids never end because this is the new mission they have assigned themselves on the roads of Johannesburg.
Without taking up a lot of your time, given your multiple occupations and precious time, I hope that Mr. Minister, you will give some attention to these matters. which are not the least because they are indeed human beings who are poorly treated and at the mercy of law enforcement.
Thank you,
Moise Kalema
