Dear Minister Fikile April Mbalula,
I trust you are well.
We have been to our local police station and did not succeed in applying for permit to travel to the neighbouring province. Like may South Africans who work and reside in the metros like Pretoria and Johannesburg, but whose homes are in the rural areas; we wish to be allowed or permitted to travel to our home town and back to work. Our home is left unattended and not cared for, due to the lock-down regulations. We all know that any house that appears to be deserted is in high risk of crime. Our home has been deserted since March 2020. We will be starting a new month as of Monday, 1 June 2020.
I write this message in asking. Hoping you will consider our plea. My mother in-law works and resides in Pretoria, but her house is in Mpumalanga. Since lock-down has been announced, the family has been concerned about the house and we are all unable to travel as lock-down prohibits inter-provincial travel. Prior lock-down, the family went to the house at least once a month to clean the yard and put on the house lights and so on.
Please assist in providing guidelines as to how we can apply for permits to travel to the farms and to return to our work areas. If permitted, they will travel by private transportation. And the only people who will be travelling are my partner and my mother in-law. Not the whole family as per normal. When they return, they can both self isolate. My mother in-law resides alone in the granny flat when she in is here in Pretoria and my partner in his apartment in Midrand. My partner works for one of the already innovative companies who have been working form home. They will not be exposed to other people on their return.
Thank you for the opportunity to write to you.
Looking forward to your favourable response.
