I am 30 years old and applying for my first issue ID- When I first applied I was informed it will take 2 weeks- completely reasonable. After not hearing anything for 4 weeks I called and they then said 6-8 weeks. Not so reasonable. But I accepted it. At 6 weeks I called again and they said we have no idea where it is at. At 8 weeks I went to an office only to walk away since I was not going to stand in line for hours just to get into Home Affairs. I then called and they said it will take 3-6 months. We can't give you a time frame. Without this ID I am unable to apply for my passport. This means Home Affairs is violating my constitutional rights: Section 21: freedom of movement, including the right to leave South Africa, the right of citizens to a passport and the right to enter South Africa.

I am being denied the ability to apply for a passport. I am also not being given my documents within a reasonable time frame.
