Good afternoon Honorable Minister
I would like to express my sincere disappointment with the basic education systems that are failing us as parents and our children. I would like to bring this to your attention if already not aware:-
1. Your department encourages that learners who had failed their grade 12 can return to school for an upgrade on the failed subjects, and which is the case.
2. Those learners will attend the whole year only to find in the following year when the matric results are released that they had failed again the subjects that were upgraded and their statements bears the same results that led them to an upgrade.
3. This act is emotionally destroying our children's self esteem and results to suicide in some cases, and this is because the system has failed them and they are not catered for i.e. what the use of upgrading if the results would come back the same as the previous year with little or no changes? (for instance, other learners have been exposed to the same process 3 times if not more for the same outcome and how does one wake up from this nightmare?, honestly its discouraging).
4. This act is currently happening in schools located in KZN and to be specific (kwaNongoma and other neighboring schools) and I have observed it severally, can this be investigated so as to establish whether the systems that are put in place to assist our children are being utilized to their full potential and by competent persons, because we can't destroy the future of our children like this.
Future replies will be published here.
