Good afternoon,
We would really appreciate some guidance with an application for a First ID.
The applicant is already 17, and we have been struggling with this process since last year. We need the ID in order to proceed with Matric exam registration and other related requirements.
Last year, our booked appointment with ABSA was cancelled by Home Affairs before we could attend the appointment for the biometrics.
After that, we received a link to book at another branch and so we booked at Nigel.
After waiting there for about two and a half hours, we were told that my daughter first needs to apply for a green ID book before she can be issued with an ID card. We were advised to go to Delmas for this step.
Today we went to Delmas but were told that we should have received a letter with the birth certificate issued in 2021.
The official could see the letter on the system but advised that we need to collect it from Cullinan before returning to Delmas to proceed with the ID book application.
We then went to Cullinan but were told they have been offline since 8am and were unable to assist.
At this stage, we are a bit unsure of the correct process and would appreciate clarity on the following:
• Do we need to apply for a green ID book first?
• Is the letter from Cullinan still required in order to proceed?
• Does Cullinan also process the green ID book, or should this be done separately at Delmas?
If possible, we would really appreciate advice on the most efficient way to complete this process, as we seem to be being redirected between offices.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
