Good Evening Mr Steenhuisen
I am writing to you to plead for assistance we in Moseley / Northdene are constantly met with no water for weeks on end. Today for example we are 9 days withought water. We have reported constantly on Ethekweni Municipality groups and have references for no water dating back to 2022. We are a DA run ward and I must say the majority residents are feeling realy let down. We even had Afriforum stepping in and put up a jo jo tank for the community to use when it is topped up. We are at the mercy of water tankers being supplied with our water. The older residents are having to cart buckets of water to flush toilets; wash themselves. We also have Cheshire homes wich is a place for the mentally handicapped and Carers are struggling to take care of residents as sometimes their Jojo tank is empty. Water Which is not consumable so we have to buy drinking water. We pay our rates and it is a human right we should have water in our taps. When the water eventually comes on last it came on for 4 hours. We are given the run around saying interventions are being done on the Southern aqueduct. Then I get a message :
Your area will always have a problem even going into the new financial year.
Looking at the draft budget, no critical repairs have been earmarked for that area.
Also given that there is a major factory requiring water for their business, the residents have been made to feel the brunt
I would urge you and your fellow residents to attend the public participation meeting taking place this coming Wednesday 30/4/2025 @ Firwood Sports Club @6pm.
As residents we are reporting water leaks when water is turned on and plumbers that are sent cannot seem to fix time and time again. We are also told that Ethekweni are using too much water so they restricting flow from Umgeni however the richer areas don't seem to be going through the same hardship of no water for weeks on end.
I know you in Capetown but realy praying you have connections in Durban as I know I'm starting to loose hope for the DA in DURBAN and Moseley/Northdene too.
Kind regards
Michelle Van Tromp
