Dear Prof Nzimande
I am the mother of a Ukzn Howard College student who enrolled to study BSS Geog in 2019,but switched to BSSGEM in 2020.My child was funded by NSFAS from 2020 despite having applied for funding in 2019. Hence he has a historical debt of R25000. In March 2022 the university informed him that he needs to complete 2 more 2nd semester modules to complete his degree. He obliged And NSFAS funded him. However in 2023, the University now says he has One more first semester module which is compulsory then only will they issue his degree,. Now NSFAS has declined his funding for 2023 citing the N1plus rule. He lodged an appeal with NSFAS in January but to date his status reads appeal in progress. He desperately emailed fees to seek financial clearance as his historical debt is 25000.Sadly he hasn't received any response from fees. My child battled to secure a place at your university to pursue his interest and he passed each year comfortably. Registration 2023 for his course has closed. My child then sent an email to student affairs to access his academic record so as to seek some form of employment to pay off the 25000 debt so he can enroll next year for the outstanding module to complete his degree.Still no response. He is extremely dejected and as a parent I am disappointed with the service from your institutions. If you can help him get to class this year, it will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.
Kind Regards.
Ronella
