As you are well aware it was impossible for firearm owners to renew their licenses from around 2017 to 2019, simply because there was uncertainty with regards to the firearms act. Thousand were affected.

In terms of the amnesty announced around end 2019, we could apply for the renewals again. I did that in Jan 2020 at Krugersdorp/ Mogale City police. One of the requirements was that you had to hand in your firearm to the police together with your renewal application

Since then all efforts to find out where my application is in the process, had been met with non-satisfactory answers.

Mogale police claim they don’t get feedback from their provincial office and in fact that the central police unit that deals with these firearm matters, are not working during the lockdown. I have send e mails and telephone calls to that unit. No response.

In the meanwhile there are rumors going around that I will not elaborate on, but is very concerning that massive corruption is attributed to this non-performance. I understand from the press that literally less than 200 licenses have been renewed our of about 30 000?

Can you please inform me what the progress is on this amnesty renewals process.

Every firearm owner who was forced in the situation, in the meanwhile sits without the protection that a firearm can provide and the police is negating their responsibility
